Tom Ford was founded by Thomas Carlyle Ford in 2005. While at Parsons School of Design with a focus in architecture, Ford found passion for the realm of fashion working abroad with a fashion house foran internship. Though first working with Cathy Hardwick and Perry Ellis, Ford recognized that his pursuit would likely be more fruitful in Europe, and eventually began working with Gucci. While with Gucci, he was appointed director of a marketing campaign for two of Yves Saint Laurent’s fragrances after Ysl’s acquisition. His controversial ads were greatly successful, and indicated Ford as a rising name in the industry. Ford has also directed a film in 2009 titled A Single Man which was well-received by critics and fans alike.
