About the creator
The artist and poet Stephane Umber Lucas studied painting in the south of France with a Flemish master and specialized in the technique of tempera, where he was obsessed with the combination of pigments and their texture. Convinced that every color has a smell, he discovered his synetesis, a perceptual phenomenon in which stimulation of his vision simultaneously triggers his sense of smell. Mixing colors was then a way to master new and unique flavors.
Stephane Umber Lucas:
“I don’t invent flavors, I rearrange them and propose to combine them, I am a matchmaker, a fashion designer of the invisible. Nevertheless, I see my flavors, every material, every chord vibrating with colors. And sometimes these colors make a sound. I don’t invent smells, like pink, and indigo, I don’t invent them, they are present in our unconscious. I ask them to live together, to be as beautiful as others, they are my harmony.”
