Lattafa Khamrah Qahwa

A small cup of cardamom-heavy Arabic coffee set next to a plate of candied fruit: Khamrah Qahwa takes Lattafa’s best-known gourmand and pours coffee into it (qahwa is Arabic for coffee).

The opening is all warm spice, cinnamon and cardamom with a bite of ginger. Praline and candied fruits come next, with a faint veil of white flowers that keeps the middle from turning dense. Roasted coffee arrives in the base alongside tonka, benzoin, vanilla and musk, so the drydown is sweet and resinous, gently bitter at the edges.

It is a cold-weather scent for evenings, dinners and long coats, and it is shared by men and women. Like the original Khamrah, it is often compared with Kilian Angels’ Share; the two share cinnamon, praline, tonka and vanilla, but there is no cognac note here, and the coffee is its own idea. If gourmands are not your thing, this one will not convert you.

Sweet spice can feel cozy one day and cloying the next, so a 5 ml decant is the sensible way to give it a few wears before buying a full bottle.
