About the fragrance
An oud fragrance with nowhere to hide, Oud Zhen builds almost everything around agarwood and lets the animal side show.
It opens on oud alone, then a second, Indian oud joins with saffron, giving a warm, leathery, faintly medicinal spice. The base is where it gets intense: tolu balsam and myrrh bring resinous sweetness, castoreum and civet add a furry, animalic depth, and sandalwood and vetiver keep it anchored and dry.
This is for experienced oud fans, women or men, who enjoy the barnyard and leather facets rather than polished, sweetened versions. Newcomers may find it confrontational. Compared with Ottoman Empire III, it trades the rose bouquet for raw wood and fur. It is a limited release, and an animalic oud is the textbook case for a decant: you learn quickly whether it thrills you or not.
